About the Mod
The Silent Cartographer: Evolved is a ground-up reimagining of the classic Halo level, featuring all-new environments, a finely-tuned gameplay sandbox, and a wide array of well-hidden secrets.
Upon its original Custom Edition release in 2015, TSC:E became the highest-rated map ever on Halomaps, and currently maintains a 9.9 out of 10 rating on ModDB.
TSC:E's new MCC edition has been painstakingly adapted by the map's original developers, including full co-op support, a complete visual overhaul, and thorough touch-ups for other MCC-specific features, like controller rumble and ultra-wide resolutions.

What do I need to play?TSC:E is available for MCC on Steam Workshop! Ensure you have the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and MCC - H1: Multiplayer DLCs installed, and then simply subscribe to the mod. Alternatively, TSC:E's final v1.4 release for Custom Edition is also available. You'll need Halo Custom Edition, patched to version 1.0.10, and the OpenSauce game extension. (A valid CD key for Halo PC is required to install Custom Edition.) Our downloads page offers an all-in-one package with every installer you need. |
Is this SPV3?Nope! While TSC:E and SPV3 were originally developed in parallel, as part of then-CMT, the two diverged significantly in look, feel, sound, and play -- in particular, TSC:E has its own completely distinct gameplay sandbox. The version of TSC:E eventually included in SPV3 was dramatically modified without the input of TSC:E's core team, up to and including the removal of major features. TSC:E's MCC edition, and its v1.4 Custom Edition release, both come from the map's original developers, and are fully representative of its original vision. |
Project HISTORY
TSC:E began life in 2012. Initiated by a small core group within the Halo modding team formerly known as CMT, it was conceived as a step forward from simply modifying campaign maps. Then, over three long years of development, the project grew into something far more special. TSC:E's developers decided to spin it off into a full-blooded, standalone experience, proudly featuring its own unique, tailor-made art-style and gameplay.
The mod finally released in March 2015, to near-universal acclaim. It was soon accompanied by a complete and fully-documented release of all source assets and scripts, which went on to serve as a foundation for numerous further Custom Edition mods. It was meant to be the final Halo project for most of the team.
...Then, six years later, the Halo PC community was unexpectedly reinvigorated by the arrival of the Master Chief Collection. TSC:E project lead Teh Lag, co-lead Ifafudafi, and environment art lead Siliconmaster reunited to revive the project with a massive new update, "Patch 1.4," in 2021. Along with over 100 bugfixes and feature improvements, it also included a new source release, compatible with Custom Edition and bringing much of our content to MCC.

This was, once again, meant to be our final Halo project: a tribute to the enduring resilience and creativity of the Halo modding community, a place where we grew up, and of which still have fond memories. Our hope was that a re-release of TSC:E, and source assets compatible with all HEK versions, would inspire Halo modders to continue breaking the limits of their creativity for years to come.
Maybe inevitably, it also inspired us to continue on, toward a fully MCC-compatible version of TSC:E. On top the difficulty in disentangling the mod from Custom Edition, this further included the herculean task of rebuilding its content and scripts to achieve full co-op support. Nonetheless, the MCC version was completed in early 2023, and released on Steam Workshop.
Today, the Custom Edition and MCC versions stand together, making the years of work we've invested accessible to both veteran Halo modders and new players alike.
